I don't understand your final sentence and also see that you have only put 5 symbols to indicate the letters and gaps for 99d), but say that it is a 6-letter word...
Thanks to twn, scorpiojo & malone. Sorry I confused you twn, it wasn't a sentence about the clue, the word kept "splitting" onto different lines, so I put in more spaces to keep it together and yes it should have had 6 not 5 letters. Apologies. ANN
