I think I have the drama and name of the pianist, but struggling with two clues.

39A. Number one American band used to check locks there (5).

40D. Pick up cycling fish? (5)

Any nudges gratefully received.

Nelson, those are the only two clues I'm left with. I've been struggling with them for hours, even though I have four letters in 39 A and three in 40 D. I have convinced myself that these must involve clashes - as you have the piano-player, can you tell me if I'm wrong with this thought? Thanks.

hi malone.
In exactly the same boat here - and have same number of letters in those two clues, so I also think there are clashes.
Have you guessed the piano player?

No, I haven't got the piano-player. I haven't got all the clashes, but thought the one at 7D/19 A would help me - it didn't!

(Hint,The pianist's name has entered the language to describe a certain type of person,)

I think I have got 40d.
It is an anagram of a word meaning to pick up bits of information - giving a word meaning to fish.
The middle letter clashes with last letter of 46A.

The clash at 7/14 gives the second letter of the pianist's name.

Thanks, both of you - glean/angle seems perfect.

I'll get back to unscrambling the pianist.

I think 39A might be:

Three letters as an abbreviation for a kind of 'number'
followed by I (one) A 9American), but I can't fit the resulting word to the definition yet.

I need a big hint as to where to find the drama before I can look for a piano player. Please help, anyone willing.
