In the following example, can anyone tell me what the abbreviation 'DBE' stands for? I've seen it crop up on numerous threads but can never work out what it means.

Sticking out for the potato insect? (11)
The answer is PROTUBERANT, and 'potato' is the DBE.

pro tuber ant - not dbe.

I understand how the clue works, but I've no idea why the "TUBER" is a "DBE".
