Isn't it strange how some tough cryptic puzzles bring real satisfaction, and others leave you feeling somehow rather annoyed? For me, this was the latter. Anyone else feel the same? After a LITTLE(!) help from the forum, I've finished except for 43a - which must be obvious because no-one else has mentioned it. S_E_S_R : he backs children and men, putting in very little money.
