Apologies for last week's mix-up. I got the times wrong & missed the voting deadline, which possibly swayed the results.

To avoid confusion in the future, re time zones & DST, I've modified the preamble somewhat.
Plenty of time for posting clues, but the voting window could still be tight for some of our Ozzie friends on the east coast.
I shifted the time forward by 2 hours - still not ideal.
Any suggestions? Please answer here:

A competition to compose the best cryptic clue, judged by your fellow contestants.

You may enter as many clues as you wish and everybody is welcome to have a go.

Feel free to explain your clue if you think it will help, or ask another setter to parse their clue.

Everybody who enters may vote for their favourite clue.
Please include the post number.
Also, please refrain from commenting on entries until voting has begun.

Please post your clues by UTC/GMT 14:00, Sunday, August 3, when voting opens.
Voting deadline – 22:00

As there are international participants, here is a link to check the time.
I have set the main zones: http://preview.tinyurl.com/mqqljf9
Please bookmark it.
To customize a fresh version: http://time.is/UTC

The entry with the most votes wins and its composer hosts the next week's competition.
The host has a deciding vote in the event of a tie and may change the rules,
& times, if necessary.

It is customary for the host to award an online prize when declaring the winner.

The answer to be clued is: CASCABEL (8)

(Try http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/cascabel for multiple defs.
Some dictionaries only have one.)

Hope I got all that right.

"Casca is warlike", partly in his own language - the hothead. (8)

(I think I've invented a new travesty - a "ghost hidden word"! "Casca bellicus est" would be the Latin translation)
