I think these are correct but would appreciate help with the parsing.......

13a. Kind to offer information of no use (5) - GENUS (Kind) - I think 'Information' might be GEN but can't see the rest.

35a. Catch Lot's wife for one, falling short, looking back (6) - ENTRAP (Catch) - it looks like 'wife for one' = PARTNE(r) (cut short & 'back'), but I can't see the relevance of 'Lot'.

36a. Prime requirement for person in race? (5) - SPEED? would fit the def. (sort of), but it's not cryptic so I think I'm missing something.

52a. Cleared up as something might be after evening session (6,3) - IRONED OUT (Cleared up) - Why 'after evening session'?

6d. One who has got to 'excel' from what we hear? (12) - NONAGENARIAN - I think it's 'to 'excel' = 2XL but that equals 80 and 'Nonagenarian' is 90 - 100 so I'm missing something.

39d. Moving stuff conveyed by a line (9) - TRAINLOAD? - Don't get this at all.

4d. One experimenting with the chemical compound - he passes out (6) - TESTER? - Again, don't see any of it.

I use it myself very often. It is in Anne Bradford's Crossword Dictionary 8th edition, in Collins English Dictionary and in Chambers as 'unserviceable', which means the same thing. Hope that this helps.

52a evening meaning smoothing, i.e. ironing out, not a period of the day.

Hi Roger, thanks for that. I'm still confused by XL, I thought it was 40 not 90. Also, I don't see how the Lot' s wife forms part of the definition ENTRAP - if it just said 'wife' wouldn't the answer be the same?
