55a. Writer with no tip for bookworm (5) R?A?E
I have absolutely no ideas about this. I want to take the word for a writer, pen etc or possibly the name of an author, then take a letter off, leaving a synonym for bookworm?
Any help welcome x

Ah! By taking the end off reader (bookworm) I get Reade, who I google and establish was an author.

Perhaps it's the other way around:
Reade(r)?
Charles Reade?
