Having trouble parsing this clue...

2d. Novel as inspiration for fictional character (8) - ORIGINAL (I think!) it fits the def. (Novel), and 'Inspiration' might be 'Origin' but that leaves AL for 'Fictional Character' so I think I've gone wrong somewhere.
