I'm having trouble working out 2dn.
Use of web rejected by traditional craftsmen in States (5) I think the b of web is omitted. I have AVE_S.
Also I can't see why 14ac is ROVING.
Thanks for any help. Working out the theme helped me a lot!

Thanks a lot. I wasn't sure how proving = establishment in 14.

I took proving to be a noun (the act of establishing)

Unclued,

I'm a bit stuck, mainly because I'm not doing very well with solving the *d clues.

Could you help me with a couple?

24 A: Scots not at home in Geneva, for instance (6)
18 D: Dismal old sheep (8)

Thanks.

24a is the Scottish word for away inside a kind of drink which can be called Geneva. It's a proper name of a different era as are the rest. I have the other four but I haven't cracked 18d yet.

18d is an old word for dismal, sad |(from the French) plus a word for a male sheep.
