Hi Folks,
Just finished a local paper crossword and whilst I am fairly happy I have it all correct, I can't understand the reasoning behind the clue to one of my answers.

Left Percy floundering completely and without qualification. 9 letters

I have PERFECTLY which is an anagram of Left Percy and this interlocks with other words.

However,I can't understand what the answer has to do with floundering completely or without qualification.

Am I being thick or what? I hope you don't mind but as someone who is relatively new to cryptic crosswords, if I don't ask, I won't learn.

Hello Colin - the floundering relates tl the anagram (letters mixed up) so completely and without qualification i.e without demur/argument is perfectly

I think that floundering indicates the anagram and that completely equates with perfectly.

Thank you Millder and of course anniec - my guardian angel, who as usual, comes to my rescue.

Bless you both.
