Gill,

John (from Arran) is giving you clever clues e.g.

Dolly the sheep was a CLONE the solid object being a CONE. That's how I read it.

Yes - underpin/ UN - united Nations. der - one of german words for "the" and pin - staple

I thought 1d was a bit unfair as L is not a recognised abbreviation for LOST.

10a is UNPIN (disconnect) around DER (the, German) although John's alternative clue is better (apart from "solidify" as the definition).
