ERUVIN is the plural but ERU = part of erupt (vent) + VIM = energy so I'd go with that.

Many thanks guys ! I agree it seems to ERUVIM although it appears not to be in Chambers 11th edition, which only lists ERUV.

Wikipedia and dictionary.com both state that ERUVIN is the plural of ERUV, just to confuse things further. However, a Google search reveals lots of ERUVIM around the world.

I remain somewhat confused but relieved to have finished 2577 !

If you're ever looking for obscure words, http://crossword-solver.utsire.com/">Utsire Crossword Solver often comes up with the answer and is worth a bookmark in your browser. One caveat though, if you only have a few letters you'll get lots of rubbish.

Trouble with 25 down:    Vessel almost right for Mike of this parish, say (6).
