Done quite well for my first attempt BUT stuck on 3 clues - 17A "A place to rest when training outside for cross- country event" (10) - have ?A?E???A?E
18D "Irritating member of audience in box speaking" (7) - have ??U?H?R
22D "Port is overlooking lake, so we're told" (5) - have I?C?R
Apologies if these clues have already been discussed - or am I the only one blind to the obvious! Thanks in advance.

Thank you jazzgirl and mamya! Have learned something from your explanations. I had got RACK for the "Cut of beef no good" (24A) but obviously it should have been RUMP (grump without the G). I have been to Izmir too! Cheers, will have another go at a Times crossword.
