22 across: It follows - each time - a TV programme (4,5)

This was the first answer that I entered in the grid: soap opera, thinking that I understood it, but on checking it again I can nearly! but not quite parse it. It fits with my other answers. Help would be appreciated.

Thanks. Not heard of a pop.

Quite the coincidence: I just opened my New Yorker calendar to a cartoon of a couple sitting on a beach with shark fins in the water, captioned "Why do you think the round-trip tickets were only thirty-nine dollars a pop?" Singularly unfunny, but using "a pop" as "each".
