Rescue pet badger if miserable. p - r - - - - - e
Porcupine fits but can't see how it is the answer. Don't think it's a badger either.

persecute is an anagram of rescue pet. Badger might be the word suggesting an anagram. But miserable = persecute looks a bit iffy.

Thank you "its me again" or should i say Celadon. Miserable must be the word triggering an anagram.

I think it's 'persecute' - the verb 'badger' defined as 'worry or pester' by my Pocket Oxford -the miserable must be the indicator for the anagram.
Also the 5th letter is 'e' - P?R?E?U?E
