I don't wish to add to the argument other than to say that a Digger is an Australian soldier, usually a veteran of the Worle War. It's compiler's licence to call a New Zealander 'digger' and I wouldn't recommend that you try it. They are 'kiwis'. Diggers and Kiwis together are Anzacs.
Having said all that I think the answer is 'digger'.
