Struggling a bit today. Maybe shouldn't be doing the crossword with the radio on but just found a station called Flower Power Oldies which is absolutely brilliant - too good to turn off. Broadcasts from Indonesia apparently. Anyhoo:

Four from Bonn dive into inlet in coastal strip... = riviera. I'm seeing IV/4 but that's all. The immediately following clue is:

...far below surface, with passion = -E-P-Y. Probably deeply but not sure where the LY's from.

And one I can't get:

Sent back special platter containing fish = P-A-C-. If it's plaice please explain why.

Many thanks.

Dont think there is an explanation for the LY...Deeply is a considerable extent downward which is the complete answer

I think the Deeply clue is a double definition.
If you feel an emotion deeply, you feel it with passion.

Bullfrog...yes agreed...I was just explaining that the LY is irrelevant in terms of being separately determined from any part of the clue in addition to deep which was Pooksahibs original thought

Thanks both. Shoulda seen the plaice but, like I said, too busy listening to those old choons. For me, 'far below surface' is deep, not deeply but there ya go...
