The Times Crossword

Felt deeply about son, getting settled (7).

- - O - T - D.

Could this be ROOSTED?

ROOTED + S (son)

Could the ROOTED refer to deep-rooted, as of feelings, and that is where the "felt deeply" would come in (even though you wouldn't ever say "rooted" feelings?)

I have another one to do and the answer to this will give me the final letter of that one. So I must have it right.

Chambers: roost - to settle or sleep on a roost or perch.

Does that help you Sammy?

Aljanon - thanks. Yes, the ROOST = settle is fine. It was the "felt deeply" that I was a bit antsy about.

My next one is this:

Needle friendly judge with 'arangue? (8)

Using the R from ROOSTED:

- N - E - - - R

Maybe INJECTOR? HECTOR pronounced 'ECTOR.

I am almost finished now, except I have a couple of niggling doubts about this across clue:

Knock back pounds in ice cream, all together (2, 4)

- N / - (y) - C.

I have IN SYNC

I and C = ice cream

But am not certain of the Y which depends on another answer being right.

And where do pounds being knocked back come in? (NYSN are the letters in reverse - leaving out the IC for ice cream)

Hi Sammy.

I think the answer may be en bloc = 'lb'/pound inside 'cone'/ice cream ... all backwards.

Sammy,
The "ector" is to arangue as hector is to harangue.

Hi again Sammy.

I just wanted to also say that I liked your version of the Bryan Adams song "Heaven", although I think that you should have given http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Do_(singer)">Do more credit for it than she actually got.

P.S. can you tell it's quiet here?

Jim, Yes, that's it! Great. Thank you. In sync never felt right.

Yes, thank you, terry - as you say, to hector is to harangue.

Now I have to work out the down answer that ends in the L of EN BLOC.

Half-heartedly condemn man thrown to lions in terrible den (9)

- - M - A - I - L

(The first letter might be D but I am not at all sure of that).

The other letters are correct.

Hi Jim, It must have been a different Sammy, as I don't know anything about that song or the singer Do. Is there another Sammy who is a member here?

Hi again.

A nasty place called Domdaniel = 'doom' without half its heart (i.e. 'dom') + 'Daniel' (who was thrown to the lions).
