I don't take the Herald(I am from Edinburgh!).Does this clue,'without a clue',mean that any word with 5 letters would be an answer eg USING?

The unclued answers in the crossword have the theme \'January\'

OK I remember now. Although not given in the crossword (and I may well be wrong), I think the theme is "Events in January" and this one is BURNS. Others that I also remember are UP-HELLY-AA, CHURCHILL (died in January) & ST AGNES EVE (20th January).
