60. Sing, ting or ring? They bowed to the audience. 6.7.
Has anyone found an alternative to "String Quartet"? This does not seem quite right to me as there is no mention of four in the clue, but I can't think of anything else.

I don't know the answer, I'm afraid, or whether string quartet is right. It could be or equally STRING QUINTET would fit. STRING TRIO would not, even if three is significant.

Unless it's that sing, ting and ring are all four-letter components of 'String'...

Also, thinking about it, a STRING QUARTET usually has three instruments: two violins, viola and cello.

It might not even be STRING - I mean, it could be something else: VIOLIN QUARTET, for example.

Further thinking, based on what bullfrog mentioned about components of the word:

Looking at

Sing,ting or ring

the initial S, t, and the whole word ring give you the components of STRING.

Thanks, friends, your comments all seem logical, & I can't come up with anything different so that's what I'll use.
