Next Jumbo comes tomorrow, and still 2 unsolved from 1056. 2d "What else is new after smashing instrument for comic effect?" Clearly the second word is whistle, but S?A?E? before it ...? AND 23d "Something needed for logging in America, before bringing in Vietnam": ?S?R?A?E. Explored both senses of logging, and "ere" meaning "before" ... but still can't see it. Can anyone help please?
