i think i've kind of hit a wall now. cant seem to get any further with it at all!

7d > whisky out of barrel reserved for the host (6,5). a.g.../s.a.e.

and 3d > submit to inexpert pro in work meeting (3,6). l.y/...o.e

are particularly annoying me! any suggestions?!

55A is ESTRAGON a character in Samuel Beckett's 'Waiting for Godot'. t's an anagram of 'gets Nora'.

Are you sure about the letters you already have on 14a???

could it be JOURNO. Jour (french for day,i.e.time in Nice) + no (on returning) = journo. Slang for sub-editor?

yeah, i have "journo" in for that one! if i remember rightly, someone asked about it in an earlier thread on here

14 across is 'journo', I think. Nice - as in the French town - time = jour, plus 'on returning' = no. Sub (sub-editor) = journalist = journo.
