What a dog of a puzzle (no offence to dogs). The point of a good cryptic is to feel a sense of achievement and a satisfying "clunk' when the answer is discerned., and the parsing is clear. Rarely forthcoming here. With this one it is more like taking a long walk through the labyrinthine tortured mental processes of the setters mind. Too much acid in the 60"s.? Could he/she please get back to their day job? Anyone else like to comment?

My sentiments exactly Paul. I have only being doing the Times jumbo for a short time but have thoroughly enjoyed the process and and a sense of a job well done. The forum has been a life saver and it is always a relief to know that other people are struggling. Let's hope we have a new setter next week.
