Thanks ChrisG! Always nice to know why an answer is what it is although I do think the setter, Dean Mayer, can be very off-key. the biological clock clue is a particularly poor one!

Perhaps a better parsing for 3 would be
Bio = life (fertility)
Logical - presumably
its wound = clock
