I am stuck on 33 down "public support" I have - d -o -a -y. I have put philosophers in the garden as my answer to 24 across which was"followers of Epicurus (named for where he taught) but something seems wrong. I have put "former" as my answer to 18 across which was "core for winding electrical core" but that seems a lame answer.

I had also found ADVOCACY but I am not entirely convinced that it is the right answer to the clue Public support. Any thoughts?

Many thanks jazzgirl. I knew you would turn up trumps.

Incidentally, I agree with you that STRAIGHTJACKET is a false etymology

The 11th edition of Chambers Dictionary now shows both spellings although I prefer the original
