48 a Winger that's game but lacking height, the poor fellow! (7)

Thanks for a super quick response.
I can understand ant in relation to end of clue but don't understand winger and pea or peas. Can you explain. Thanks

49 a must be PEASANT as it fits with 44 d being TOPSIDE so thanks again , but need to understand why.

Winger a bird, a game bird is pheasant without h for height...leaves peasant the poor fellow. That was my thinking.

Topside double definition....topside is a joint of beef and the league leaders would also be the top side. Hope that explains it.

Yes winger...I've seen it used before....not the best...I think it's right though in terms of the clue. If not, I'm sure someone else will correct it.
