Ive since discovered that it's called tattie week coz it is when the farmers would hire people 2 pik potatoes from his fields. U learn sumfin new every day :)

tattie week . originally the week farmers lifted the potato crop, so many kids were kept off school to work in the fields at the tattie howking that local authorities gave in and made it a local holiday week, mainly north and east scotland.
