the cryptic clue is " Penultimate man in ? So secure the hatches .

3. Weak (6) ??e?L?
the cryptic clue is " Began with the need to go out to work " .

1 An anagram of 'bottle stink'. The inkblot test is when you look at pictures/doodles and say what they represent to you.
2 Bat ten = the 10th bat/batsman in a cricket match. Batten is a fastening,lock - it's in the phrase 'batten down the hatches'.

thanks to everyone who helped with clue 1 and 2, i think the answer for clue 3 is < feeble > but i do not know how they got the answer from the cryptic clue.
