Foolish headed animal , becomes a cleaver animal (3) _o_

Just two little 3 letter words & I've got most of the letters but I can't complete them to my satisfaction. Any thoughts?

1st one is air. A1+R.

AIR !!

FOX (If its a CLEVER animal) F + ox

2nd one. Are you sure it's not ?WL. Then the answer could be OWL. (F)owl=foolish headed animal.

Regarding the animal the clue is actually "Foolish-headed animal from 68 Ac. becomes a cleaver animal" Problem is that there is no 68 Ac. in the crossword and nothing nearby that makes sense if it's a typo !!!

Your correct guys - It is Fox. I thing the 68 Ac. may refer to the Christmas Crib and there fore the cow (ox) Thanks Folks.
