40a is definitely 'msec' , sec refers to dry.
I have a complete grid with appropriate row and column highlighted , but have only identified 9 of the 16 clues with 'wrong notes'. Any help gratefully received. Thanks.

uncle_w, googling the the theme may lead you to a list of thematic items including the answers to the clues without definition. Some of these, including 41 are asterisked.
