Stuck on 9a: "Love, old - nevertheless getting into punt" (9)

I've got B-T-O-G-T which I can only assume is BETHOUGHT from though=nevertheless and bet=punt, but I don't see how love fits in; or am I completely up the wrong gum tree?

i took this to be Ought, an archaic word for zero (love)?
the beth comes from it being one of the 7 special clues.

Thanks for the help; I obviously need to get a more comprehensive dictionary as mine didn't have this definition of bethought
