I am having a real (losing) battle with this.
20 A. Paris ending drama year shortly after reprise (7) ?ar????
3 D. Entoils in finish as nine is struck (10)
?nd??e??a?

Most clues 'contain one word which must have a letter removed, and those remaining rearranged to form a new word before solving'.

Thanks for any help.

I am totally stuck with this.
4 D. Joint raid arranged internally for Wellington's armies (10) ??m?????e
17 A. Group of beetles start to live off bonsai, for example (10) ????co?n??

I think both these clues are affected as per the preamble - see Malone's first post.
Thanks to anyone who can help me.

Am soldiering on, have only about half a dozen answers left to get.

5 D. Card concealed by player turning round (4)
?r??
(Possibly tr??)
24 A. Failed to cast democratic note into old poet's lines (5) ???nt
(Possibly d??nt).

Both of these probably contain one word which is affected as per the preamble.

5d is hidden backwards, haven't got the other yet myself, but you are right with the D so we can't have too many options.
