Hi Bullfrog,

I thought it was employing which is the opposite of sacking someone but I am probably wrong. What is the rationale behind expulsion please?

To be honest I don't have a lot of confidence in it, hence the hesitant suggestion. Simply a double definition, but not knowing the crossword, it's difficult to know how cryptic (or not) it might be.
