... as it's known in our house. I have a very old one which doesn't do anagrams, so I'd like that facility. Mine has just run out of battery power for the first time ever and it's got a collection of the expensive-looking ones in the back, so I decided it's time to look for a new one.

Has anyone got any recommendations?

I like this one which does multiple word anagrams.

This site is useful for solving clues and anagrams:

Thanks, andyc and rossim, but you misunderstood me. I'm talking about something like this:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Seiko-ER3700-Electronic-Spellchecker-Dictionary/dp/B004536Z3O/ref=pd_vtp_office_4/280-0380009-9570002

so I can do a quick bit of cheating without switching on my laptop & the internet. I know I could use the internet via a smartphone but I haven't got one and don't want one.

Thanks sally (posts crossed).

I refer the Right Honourable Lady to the answer I gave some moments ago, as Mrs T used to say.

Oh right, I just thought if you were already on the internet you could just open another page!

I've only ever seen machines that anagram whole words, not a string of mixed letters.

Hi livs - We have a small "cheating" machine which you can get from Argos for around £25. See here:

PS - It also has an anagram solver and a "word maker" where you can enter letters and it will make up words from all or some of the characters.
