Cannot be holds forth as originally suggested as the
A in the second word is correct.

what about 'holds faith'

faith is a virtue and i have heard the saying 'forever holds faith' before but cannot find any reference.

just a thought....

Yes thought it might be holds faith but still cannot see where the speech bit comes in.
