Posting tips make me feel a bit intimidated....
20a Severe cut some announced (4) S R . I don't agree with the spaces thin, so S-R-.

I think the definition is severe, but I don't see where the answer comes. As ever, any help gratefully received.

I think it's Sore (severe) - which (supposedly) sounds like saw/cut.

20 across: 'some' can mean severe. For example, that's 'some' cut you have on your hand or that's 'some' cold you have. This may be the reason for the inclusion of 'some', but I still dislike the clue.
