Bernie I can't parse 5d):

Like poetic mariner, worked with son for instance (7).

I've got A?C?E?T placed, so I'm pretty sure it must be ancient with the mariner link. I wondered if you could throw any light on it?

Ancient 'worked with son' could lead to an anagram of 'ancient'+'s' which would give 'instance'?
