Well, I've done the main crossword but am stuck on The Clue of the Week from the Independent - Any short term gains within political faction shown by this (11 letters SW, last letter R. Only eleven letter word I can think of is swordbearer but, if so, why?
I'm sure it won't be long before one of you cn tell me. Wouldn't ask so quickly but I'm going away on Sunday. Many thanks.

Thanks, folks.
I got Dave for 2 down but must admit I sort of guessed at it so glad to see it confirmed. I was dabbling with swing voters for the Clue of the week but it didn't have enough letters and in any case was 2 words.
