However are you sure the clue says WHISKEY? ISLAY makes WHISKY.

Thank you chrise. Not used to this and muddled is my second name. English not my first language so spelling is always a challenge. I'll try to be more precise in the future.

It's a pedantic point to all (except the Scots) - Scotch whisky has no E; Irish Whiskey (and American) does have a E.
btw the only two things that should properly be described as "Scotch" are whisky and mist - Scots is the adjective for anything else from Scotland.

What's the derivation of the word, rambler? Does "scotch" in the sense of "put paid to" a scheme derive from the Scots - does "welshing" on a bet derive from the Welsh? We English don't think much of our neighbours!

Food historians have several theories regarding the name and origin of this confectionery, but none are conclusive. One explanation is the meaning "to cut or score" for the word "scotch", as the confection must be cut into pieces, or "scotched", before hardening. It is also possible that the "scotch" part of its name was derived from the word "scorch".

So now we know!
