At the risk of finding everyone safely tucked
up in bed, I'll just try a couple more!
25 Down - "Good story (if sometimes untrue)
omitting end - clever. (4) G---
31 Ac - "Noun in this may be rendered
Anglice". (6) -A---IC
The latter word begins where the former
one ends in the grid.

It is Gaelic

'N' (noun) is rendered (given up from) anagram of Anglice
And it's a sort of &lit explanation from the surface reading as the word Gaelic is a proper noun

Thanks to everyone for "Gaelic" - I should
have seen that one! That means that the
4-lettered one going down now begins with
"G" and ends with "G".

Thanks, Les. I've never heard that word
before but it seems as good as any! Could
it be to do with pulling someone's leg?
