Just a few left...

Good news after prison escape? It comes as a surprise (8) -O-F-U-- (COUNFOUND?)

Day that conspirator perches on tree (8) -I-N-M-N (CINNAMON?)

Like a cricket bat in a match (7) S-L-C--

Trick gets mug (4) T-A- (TRAP? TEAS?)

Thanks for any ideas - sorry for asking so many, am waiting to be shot down, but I have done quite a few myself!

Hi Janie.

confound ≅ 'convict found' (and then returned to prison, I assume).

cinnamon ≅ 'Cinna' (= assassin of Caesar) + 'Mon'day.

Trick gets mug (4) ... trap I guess as 'trap' can also mean 'mouth'/mug.

Like a cricket bat in a match (7) ... spliced .. describes a cricket bat's construction and also is used (as slang?) to mean married.

My pleasure.

It often helps to come at the clues with a fresh pair of eyes. It also helps a lot to have the entire clue, length & crossing letters provided at the outset - for which, my thanks to you.
