Hello Chris. Ok. So I get the Welsh/Wales bit. Thanks for that. But am still struggling to get the whole thing together. Any further clues?

Abbreviate "wales", followed by "following a direct route" with a letter missing.

P.S. He's another Shakesperean King

Hey got it. Thank you so much.

Now I can break my head over the Southwest corner. 4 to go then I'm done.

Have a great weekend.

Stuck on the last one:

26 Associate of crown, Michael who directed the successful Equus? (5,6)

I've got that the second word is Winner (farewell sweet prince, for you life was only a commercial)

First word I have as S_R_Y

Stray? Spray? Surly?

Your S is wrong in the first word. Think of a type of porcelain. (It's a very nice clue!)

Cheers chrise. Had to google the porcelain reference. Obvs had a conjugation mindblip on 1d.

Urticaria seems to be back in full form. I get melancholy thinking each one of his is going to be a swansong now

(Bit of an unfortunate typo, Gespar!)

Just stuck now on 26a

Associate of crown, Michael who directed the successful Equus? 5,6

I've got D-R-Y/-I-N-R and am thinking something like Dirty Winner??
