im sorry but malones explanation of clue 4 is wrong.

Before ME writer's not the first (W)riter to amend (anagram) gives the answer Galley= TRIRE(ME)

Thanks - I knew had the correct answer, but I'd solved it instinctively, then struggled to explain it!
