just done 19d . Re the first letter of 1d, when you "times" a number, can this also be shown as "take" ?

Ingenious, jazzy, but I think "take" would be subtract rather than multiply - which might be "by", though that doesn't help.

Well, how strange you should hit on the arithmetical sense of takes = multiplied by! I had the vague feeling an hour ago, & have just seen it confirmed on AB, tho' I couldn't find it in Ch. at a quick glance. I'm going to take it now "as read" anyway. Trouble is, grid & clues have still not arrived...................

"Takes" is the only word in the clue that would fit "times" as "back" refers to the reversal, so it must be correct as GK says. Now finished (hurray) . Now to look at jolan's if I have any brain left.

Yes "takes" makes better sense than my original thought of a shortened hyphenated word reversed

Hi all - the Help Forum screen seems feint & RT6 seems to be missing its first page - anyone else having the same problems ?
1d is a gas starting with 'the times sign' in maths.
I am struggling with 18a "Lots of money for Lancaster eg" I've got a/*r*t**/*e*o* thought it might have been an anagram of for Lancaster but can't find the fit - help please
