I think it has to be hyke, as 27a cannot end in K ?

Having a thick day, as I've just noticed that plodder had given the answer to 27a in his first post.I also forgot to check Chambers for the 4-letter word at 20a and it's actually the first definition.

Hi jazzgirl,I thought 20a the best clue in what was a 'do-able' Xword compared to last months. The tennis frayed my nerves too much so I finished decorating the hall.!

hi plodder. I agree 20a was well constructed. I still find Saga crosswords quite difficult, compared to others that I do but I've only been doing cryptics for 18 months, so maybe there's hope for me yet .
