looks like it might be Mares Nest - Mast/pole, around an anagram of sneer(I don't know the phrase tho)

I'm sure the answer is Mare's nest but I can't quite see how it ties in with the clue, apart from the anagram of sneer and the pole (s)

How about the Annual Ig Nobel Prizes. e.g. 2008

Archaelogy: Sau Paulo University. For showing how the course of history,or at least the contents of a dig site,can be scrambled by the actions of a live Armadillo.
Biology: some French guys. For the discovery that the fleas that live on a dog can jump higher than those that live on a cat.

Or, the 1992 Prize for Art: Awarded jointly to Jim Knowlton for his classical anatomy poster "Penises of the Animal Kingdom", and the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts, for encouraging Mr Knowlton to extend his work in the form of a pop-up book.
