In a 19th century poem what at first seemed to be an interrogative specimen of crotalus cerastes with a classical education?

This is not a question from the Northern echo, it's from the latest Great Fun Quiz. But then again, "pastiche" has form about asking GFQ questions when asked by the quizsetter not to do so.

Hello there,

Can I take this opportunity to say pastiche is NOT pastille.....someone once thought it was my alternative moniker....it's not.
