This has been gnawing away at me since the weekend - can someone explain the parsing and put me out of my misery? I can see 'Gable' and 'Ate' but not the rest...

Hollywood legend having come round dined on top of tall furniture item (7,5) GATELEG TABLE

I can see T for 'top of tall', but I'm not happy with LEG for 'legend'...

Thank you for sharing this with us bullfrog. You'll be pleased to hear that I have also been 'gnawed' since you first posted. I still can't parse it.

Please don't misinterpret - but a thought

The clue reads to me as Gable being filled (having come round) with dined (ate)and top of tall (t)

Surely it can't have 'dined' meaning 'ate leg' (of lamb or pork)?

As I said, just a thought (albeit poor)

Hollywood legend = (Clark) Gable
(having come round)
dined =ate
(on top of)
tall = t
furniture item = gateleg table.

But where does Leg fit in ?
