Got the answers but can't work out why - help appreciated.

Leading is an anagram of aligned - joined forces?

Ff - following (in Welsh FF is pronounced f)
esti - site
enter from the East - in an across clue , means backwards (goin)

leading (anag)
join forces = aligned
(to join with others in a cause).

FF following +esti (site) + go in (from the east- reversed- niog)?
