Unit of light in Egyptian city - LUXOR (Egyptian City) If 'Light' is 'L' and 'Gold' is 'OR', where does the 'UX' come from?

Sound of visitors arrival or farewell in desert - RAT A TAT - What is the ref. to 'Farewell in desert'? (Or is it to do with Desert Rats)?

Lux is a unit of light, then 'or' for gold.

The other one has 'ta ta' (farewell) inside 'rat'.
